Dr. Juma was one of the 50 Kenyan doctors in Cuba sponsored by the Government Of Kenya to study Family Medicine as a specialization under the framework of the MOU between Kenya and Cuba.

Reports from the media revealed that the sponsored medics have been on record decrying harsh living condition and failure by the Kenyan government to provide them with the agreed stipend to meet their daily expenditure.

Despite the ministry of health stating that the circumstances resulting to the death were not clear and called for Investigation, some reports claim that the death might have been due to frustration.

Mombasa Governor Joho during the visit assured the family of his support
as they wait for the arrival of the body for final rites and burial.
