Peter Makori, a Kenyan Journalist based in the United States has until now not been paid the money the Kenyan government owes to him. He was awarded the money by resident Judge David Majanja in a suit filed 13 years ago.
Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho is facing a six-month jail term after failing to honour Ksh15 million the state owes to Makori.
In the suit, the journalist had accused the Kenyan government of torture, illegal confinement and malicious prosecution.
The state had, however, not honoured the directive which was given by the court.
As a result, a Kisii court summoned the PS to appear before it next Tuesday to explain why he failed to honour the directive.
Since the directive was issued, the nearly crippled journalist revealed that he was frustrated by what he termed as “deliberate obstacles” by officials at Harambee House.
He further disclosed that after the torture happened close to two decades ago, doctors diagnosed him with permanent injuries.
An attempt by his lawyer Ken Bosire to follow up the compensation hit a dead end as he was told that the file had gone missing.
Makori was arrested 16 years ago while on assignment in Kisii County where he was covering the killing of two chiefs.
The journalist was later arrested and charged with the murder of an assistant chief but he was released after 11 months in custody due to lack of evidence.
