How Indiscipline will Bring Proud Gor Mahia Back to Earth

I have seen Gor Mahia fans brag about how they beat a 12 man Petro Atletico (Plus the Referee) with 9 men.

This was arguably Gor Mahia’s biggest match in recent history, and I must applaud them for calming their nerves to win despite all the odds against them.

But I just feel like Gor brought the pressure on themselves. Ernest Wendo is one of the most experienced players in the team. Did he need to make that reckless high boot challenge? That was a stupid mistake and any ref would have given him a straight red card.

ShafikBatambuze is an international player, hoping to travel to Egypt in June with Uganda Cranes. Yet he just dived for a stupid yellow card, which he didn’t need to. He was given his matching orders with 15 minutes to play, leaving his team in a very dangerous situation.

With 9 men on the field; Captain Harun Shakava, goalkeeper Peter Odhiambo and Striker Jacques Tuyisenge were also booked, meaning Gor will play the Quarter Finals against Berkane of Morocco without 5 key players.

Tuyisenge has scored 4 goals in the competition this season and is in line to be named in the team of the tournament. But this is not the first match he is missing. He was also suspended for the first leg against Petro Atletico.

Shakava and Joash Onyango missed the first two matches also over indiscipline after being sanctioned by CAF.

The fact that coach Hassan Oktay was also shown a red card on Sunday, means Gor Mahia are in a very difficult situation.

I just don’t understand why the team has been so undisciplined in Africa. You can’t excuse the fans either, as they stupidly invaded the pitch after the win over Petro Atletico, another show of indiscipline.

CAF may punish Gor Mahia by making them play without fans in the quarter finals.

So imagine playing in an empty stadium without 5 key players and without your coach.

Indiscipline is about to bring Gor Mahia back to earth. I hope they will learn from this.
