Clashes between the Borana and Gabra erupted leaving three people dead and several others sustaining gunshot wounds in the at Haro Gisera in Saku Constituency.
The injured were taken for treatment at the Marsabit General Hospital.
Security officers have been sent to the area to contain the situation.
Marsabit OCPD Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the incident and called on residents to remain calm as security personnel handle the situation.
Interfaith Council chairman Mohamednur Kuli appealed to the community to embrace peace noting that only peaceful coexistence will bring development in the area.
The tension between the two communities have long persisted and claimed many lives in the recent past.
