People have speculated that war against graft is mostly targeting members of the Kalenjin community, but that is not the case if the latest report by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haiji, is anything to go by

The DPP produced a report indicating the Kalenjin community was not being victimized in the anti-graft war – A section of politicians had accused the DPP of using corruption to fight leaders from the Kalenjin community –

But the report by Haji showed Kikuyu and Luo communities had the highest number of people implicated in graft cases

Haji stated no individual or tribe was being targeted in the anti-corruption war, contrary to the persistent and sensational claims by Deputy President William Ruto and his political allies from the Rift Valley region.

Noordin Haji on Wednesday, March 13, cautioned against politicizing war against corruption amid claims certain individuals were being targeted.

The DPP who was speaking to Citizen TV on Wednesday, March 13, defended himself and colleagues saying they were not after certain individuals or communities but only those who had stolen from taxpayers.

“If you are a criminal, you are a criminal, no matter your tribe. If what you have done is steal from Kenyans, then you must face the law. It is sad that we are trying to politicize and tribalize the whole issue,” he said.

To further demystify the alleged bias and malice in the anti-graft war, the DPP produced a report indicating the Kikuyu community, and not the Kalenjin, had the highest number of people implicated in various graft cases since April 2018.

Reports show that 141 Kikuyus had been mentioned in different graft cases between April 2018 and March 2019 followed by members of the Luo tribe with 56 and then the Kalenjin community at third place with 46 graft suspects. kikuyus we ‘don’t see for you’ Hatuwaonei.  You people  are  number 1 in the list

Next was Kisii with 37, followed by Mijikenda, 34, Kamba, 31, Luhya, 29, Indian, 15, and five members of the Embu tribe.

The DPP emphasized it was wrong to say a certain community or individual was being victimized. “I understand African communities are about ‘Ubuntu’, but I think we need to draw a line because nowhere does ‘Ubuntu’ allow for corruption or crime.

We are not targeting any individual. We have cases and evidence. We will produce them in the court of law where decision would be made,” he said.

A number of prominent politicians, especially from the Rift Valley region, have not been happy with the way the anti-graft war is being conducted as some feel their tribe is being targeted.

Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Nandi governor Stephen Sang and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi who are believed to be close allies of Ruto, had accused Haji and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, George Kinoti, of using war on graft to frustrate the DP’s political career.
