Three key infrastructure contracts Kenya signed with France worth Ksh300B

Kenya has sealed several infrastructure contracts with French companies after Emmanuel Macron’s visit into the country. According to Reuters, one of the contracts entered into is the Nairobi – Mau Summit Highway valued at KSh 181.5 billion (€1.6 billion) to be paid in 30 years.

The project will be carried out by French concessions and construction firm, Vinci.

Kenya also signed a KSh7.9 billion contract with Voltalia, a renewable energy company, for two solar power sites. The deal is in line with Kenya’s commitment to move toward renewable energy sources.

A group of French companies landed a contract worth KSh22.7 billion to provide surveillance services at the Kenyan coast.

Additionally, France agreed to finance a light rail project that will link Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Central Business District.

At a press conference, the French President said, “We are launching a project for the refurbishment of the rail-line from the central station to the airport.” The commuter rail system is expected to start operating by 2021.
