Amnesty Kenya intervenes as 10 year old is forced to prostitution by mother

Amnesty Kenya is intervening in a case where a 10 year old admitted to being forced by her mother into prostitution.

This incident was shared by media personality Amina Abdi on her Instagram page as she expressed the heartbreaking situation  in Kisii County.

Amina says that she met the 10 year old young girl on the streets of Kisii town at 11 pm waiting for men to sleep with so that she can take that money home to her mother.

“She described to me in Swahili that her mother makes her do chores during the day at home in their village then at night she’s beaten and forced to go to Kisii town and sell her body for at most 200 bob.” Amina said in her post

If she could approach her mother, the 10 year old stated that she would make a request to get a chance to go to school.

The young girl has a brother in form 2 who’s allowed to go to school because he is male.

She went further to explain that this is nothing new in her village and most girls are involved in this. It’s an issue that has become a norm in the Kisii villages.

Amnesty Kenya expressed their commitment to carry out further investigations by going to the girls home in order to stop this.

Amina and the team that interacted with the young girl took her from the streets and gave her enough money not to return for a few weeks as the Amnesty Kenya team intervenes.

The issue of child prostitution is a matter that indeed needs to be addressed as irresponsible parents are exposing their children to a dangerous lifestyle at the expense of personal gains.

This story shared by Amina has sparked a lot of reactions from Kenyans as many are angered by the state of young girls being used as sex objects.
