Gor Mahia diehard fan perishes in Ethiopian airplane crash

Gor Mahia diehard supporter was among the 32 Kenyans who perished in the Ethiopian airline ET 302 crash on Sunday.

Ibrahim Abdullahi Mohamed, who was working in Saudi Arabia, was coming back home for holidays when he met his untimely death. His father Mr Abdullahi told Citizen TV, his son used to come home every February, but this year, he told them he would push his leave to March because there was a lot of work to be done.

The 38-year-old, who was a die-hard fan of Kenyan premier league reigning champions Gor Mahia FC and EPL’s Arsenal FC, leaves behind a widow and three children.

According to his mother, they last spoke on Tuesday. She told the media:

” mara ya mwisho tuliongea siku ya ijumaa (tuesday) akiniuliza ‘mama nikuletee zawadi gani?. nilkamwambia zawadi yeyote tu nitashukuru”. 

Kenya suffered the greatest fatalities – 32 – in the crash, the flight having been headed to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The UN Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Sharif said the agency lost 22 personnel in the crash who were heading to Nairobi to attend a global environment assembly which commenced on Monday.

Canada lost 18 nationals in the crash with Ethiopia losing nine.

China Italy and United States of America had eight nationals in the flight while the United Kingdom and France lost seven citizens each in the crash.

The 737 Max 8 crash was the second most deadliest in six months, after a Lion Air flight departing from Jakarta in October 2018 killed all 189 passengers on board 13 minutes after takeoff.
