A revisit on Zidane’s past success at Real Madrid during his first stint

Zinedine Zidane’s first stint at Real Madrid was in January 2016 when he replaced Rafael Benitez who had flopped as coach. Zidane was at the time in charge of Madrid’s B team that time.

He ended his first season winning the UEFA Champions League after beating rivals Atletico Madrid in the final. The following season was even more successful as he lifted the Laliga title and the UEFA Champions League after defeating Juventus in the final played at Cardiff Stadium.

The 2017/2018 season was a difficult one for Madrid in the domestic competitions as his side was tossed out of Copa Del Rey by Leganes and also ended up finishing third in Laliga. He side, however, managed to win a third straight Champions League after whipping Liverpool 3-1 in the final.

Zidane won 70% of the games he was in charge of Real Madrid and is the only manager who has never lost Champions League knockout match.
