Pastors in Nambale have come together to confront the plan of the National government to tax churches.

Pastors from Churches in Teso North, Teso South sub counties and Bukhayo North Ward in Nambale have rejected plans by the National Government to start taxing tithes and vowed to resist to the move.

The religious leaders met at Hotel Suddex in Amagoro on Monday where they formed the Teso Pastors Network Association Platform (TPNAP) aimed at bringing all pastors together to fight injustices meted on them, The Star reports.

The Association interim chairman Pastor Dennis Etyang said proposals to start taxing their tithe were untenable, noting that pastors work on a voluntary basis all week round.

However, pastors in the cities minting millions on church services are yet to share their sentiments on taxing tithes.

The rise in churches and self proclaimed prophets is alarming as compared to Rwanda where thousands of churches were shut down by the government for having poor infrastructure and unqualified pastors.
