IG Boinnet term comes to an end today, here are some of his possible successors

Today is the day when Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, who has been at the helm of the police service, will officially leave office.

Boinnet, 56, is not eligible for another term, under the law which provides that the holder of such officer shall serve for a fixed four-year term.

Here are some of his possible successor;

George Kinoti

The current DCI chief, Kinoti is responsible for investigations into the high power corruption scandals witnessed in the country.

Prior to his appointment, Kinoti served as the police service spokesman. He is a career police officer who rose to through the ranks from a police constable to Assistant Inspector General.

Isaac Ochieng

A long-serving NIS officer, Ochieng’ is among names of spies likely to be the next Inspector General of Police.

Ochieng’s has served as a director of the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Karen. Until recently, Ochieng was a director at NIS.  He has since been appointed Kenya’s ambassador to Brazil.

Eric Kiraithe

The current Government spokesman, Kiraithe is a career police officer.

Prior to his current posting, Kiraithe was the Kenya police spokesman at a time when the police came under international focus following the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

Kiraithe has served in various positions in the police including a station commander in Ng’arua.

Edward Mbugua

He is the current Deputy Inspector General in charge of Kenya Police Service.

Prior to his appointment to the powerful office at Vigilance House, Mbugua served as the head of President Uhuru Kenyatta security team.

He is a career officer who has risen through the ranks to the top office.

He has served as police station commander, division police commander and also the Mombasa county police chief.

Charles Owino Wahong’o

He is the current National Police Service spokesman.

Prior to the changes in the police service, he was the Kenya Police spokesman.

In his new role, he speaks on behalf of all police services, AP and Kenya police as well as the DCI.

He is a career officer who has risen through the ranks to his current rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

He has also served as an investigator in the DCI and also a police chief in Njoro.

 Noor Gabow

Gabow is Deputy Inspector General in charge of Administration Police service.

The no-nonsense officer made history as the first Kenya police service picked to head the Administration Police.

He replaces Samuel Arachi, who was removed from office together with his Kenya Police DIG Joel Kitili and DCI chief Ndegwa Muhoro last year.

Prior to his appointment, Gabow served as the Kenya Police College, Kiganjo commandant.
