Uhuru Kenyatta and Dr Ruto openly read from the same script before the case against the duo in Netherlands collapsed.

Today, Ruto’s allies and Uhuru’s are both smelling a fallout which has been linked to the march 9 handshake between president Uhuru and Raila.

Although both are yet to declare the fallout, analysts say the points of departures out-number instances where the two agree.

Though the circumstances are slightly different, the 1964-1966 Jaramogi- Jomo political fall-out is now replaying itself in the current Uhuru-Ruto acrimony over many fundamental issues including the fight against corruption. Ruto’s allies have accused Mr Odinga of taking advantage of the handshake with President Kenyatta to rock Jubilee.

The Rift Valley legislators allied to the Deputy President have further said they are ready to call it a day with Uhuru and Jubilee, accusing the President of using his newfound relations with ODM leader Raila Odinga to fight Ruto.

“We were together as Jubilee Party under the slogan “Tuko Pamoja” (we are together). But are we really together?”

Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the Senate Majority Leader, further accuses the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti of “fighting political wars”, saying it is “unfortunate that the project has been weaponised as a tool for 2022 political fights”.

The President affirmed his confidence in the investigative and prosecution agencies.

“We reformed the offices of DCI and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and appointed people who are ready to fight corruption. We have empowered the office of the DPP to tackle the cases as required. Mr Kinoti and Mr Haji are doing their work,” the President said.

The formation of the Jubilee coalition seemed unlikely for different reasons. First, the core supporters of Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, the two coalition leaders, had been on opposing sides in the post-election violence which was then even more recent, and whose effects were still fresh. How could core supporters who had recently been adversaries in a bitter conflict be organised into a winning electorate?
