Ethiopian Airlines flight crashes with 157 onboard, spokesman confirms

A search and rescue operations is currently under way near the crash site around the town of Bishoftu, Ethiopia after a plane headed to Nairobi, Kenya crashed with 157 people on board.

The Ethiopian Airlines flight was travelling from Addis Ababa to Nairobi with 157 people aboard.

“It is confirmed it happened 08.44,” said the spokesman who did not give his name.

The Boeing 737 plane carried 149 passengers and eight crew members. It was scheduled to depart Addis Ababa in Ethiopia at 08:15 and land in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, at 10:25, according to Flight Radar, a website tracking air traffic.
