Los Blancos are having one of their most disastrous seasons in recent history.

They dismissed Julen Lopetegui after just a few weeks in charge and his replacement – Santiago Solari – has also struggled.

Solari is now on the brink after Real suffered a humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat to Ajax in the Champions League earlier this week.

Real are also floundering in La Liga and sit a whopping 12 point behind Barcelona.

A summer overhaul is expected and club president Florentino Perez is preparing for high-profile exits.

However, according to digital media outlet OK Diario, Toni Kroos has been told his position is safe.

Like most other Real players this season, Kroos has underwhelmed.

But Perez sees the Germany international as integral to the club’s long-term future and will ensure he’s not jettisoned.

Kroos, 29, has been on Real’s books since 2014 and has been repeatedly linked with Manchester United.

With Solari on the brink, Jose Mourinho might finally get the chance to work with him.

The Portuguese – who was sacked by United in December – is the bookies’ favourite to take charge.

Former club president Ramon Calderon isn’t convinced Mourinho is a sensible option for Real though.

In his previous stint at the club, the charismatic chief was dismissed amid rumours of a toxic atmosphere in the dressing room.

”I’ve already mentioned the amount of damage he caused here,” Calderon said.

“His style of play is not what the Bernabeu wants.

“What the fans want is what we’ve just seen from Ajax; bravery, aggression with a lot of speed and boldness. Mourinho doesn’t do this.

“I believe that he will be here next year as he’s the only manager who the president respects and it’s because he puts the dressing room in order and he demands the players to work hard.”
