Location: Funyula Constituency. A middle-aged woman has been charged Ksh 300,000 for attempting to sell her last born because of living in abject poverty.
The woman, who was referred to as MO in the charge sheet, was arrested and will now have to pay a whopping Ksh 300,000 for attempting to sell her one-and-a-half year old baby, Justus Ojanji.
Mo was arrested together with a man who was believed to be the middle-man in the transaction.
Whilst appearing in court, the poor woman pleaded guilty to the offence.
Nevertheless, the other suspect pleaded not guilty, siting the fact that he was the one approached by the woman who badly needed money and asked if he knew someone that needed a child to be sold to them.
This shows the alarming lengths individuals will go to escape the cruel grasp of poverty in the country.
