Everyone’s favorite show Arrow is finally throwing in the towel, after a pretty strong run.
The CW show, which aired on Sky in the UK, is coming to an end with a ten-episode run. The show will officially lay down its bow after eight seasons according to star Stephen Amell, who shared the news in an emotional Facebook Live to fans.
He also tweeted his goodbye to Oliver Queen aka the Green Arrow saying “you can’t be a vigilante forever.”
In a joint statement, showrunner Beth Schwartz and executive-producer Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim called it a “difficult decision”.
“This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of Arrow in mind. We’re heartened by the fact that Arrow has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and – more importantly – the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years.”
Stephen Amell explained in his Facebook Live that he had expressed a wish to leave when his contract came to an end, but after meeting with the team he wanted to step down on a good note.
He added that he has changed so much over the the nearly ten year show run, going from dating someone and being relatively new to acting, to leading a show, being married and having a child.
Amell cited his family as being one of his reasons, and wanting to have a home out of Vancouver, he had decided to quit the show.
He also thanked the team, crew and his cast for all their work, as well as the fans.
“This show has given me a platform that extends so far beyond my ability to just appear on your television 23 times a year,” he said.
“It has given me a voice for philanthropic endeavours, for social issues that I am interested in.”
Arrow is currently in the middle of season seven, but will end after a shorter 10-episode season eight.
