PARIS SAINT-GERMAN have been labelled as ‘European football’s greatest bottlers’ after their 3-1 loss to Manchester United in the Champions League.
That’s by Craig Burley, who believes United’s win was due to PSG ‘bottling’ their lead rather than because of the Red Devils themselves.
United became the first side in European Cup history to overturn a 2-0 first-leg home loss.
Romelu Lukaku hit a double before Marcus Rashford’s 94th minute penalty saw United through.
PSG were heavy favourites going into the tie after an impressive win at Old Trafford two weeks ago.
Kylian Mbappe and Presnel Kimpembe netted at Old Trafford while Paul Pogba was sent off for the hosts.
United were missing 10 key players in Paris including Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial.
It was the second time in three years that PSG have thrown away a big lead in the Champions League after their historic collapse to Barcelona in 2017.
The Ligue 1 outfit led 4-0 after the first leg before an unbelievable 6-1 second-leg loss at the Nou Camp, with now-PSG winger Neymar scoring twice and orchestrating the comeback for Barca.
After their latest defeat, fans have slammed PSG for their record of losing big Champions League ties.
Speaking on ESPN, Burley laid into the French giants, who are currently top of Ligue 1, for their embarrassing record in on the continent.
“This is European football’s greatest bottlers,” he said.
“The biggest bottle jobs of Europe’s elite.
“They find a way to shoot themselves in the foot.
“They had the possession, the players, but they didn’t have the knowhow, the quality and the bottle to see it out.
“[Thomas] Tuchel is just another coach who will have to take responsibility for one of the biggest shambles that this club has seen for a while considering the billions they’ve spent.”
PSG have consistently ploughed money into buying the best players possible with the sole intention of winning the Champions League.
And Wednesday’s defeat will raise questions over Tuchel’s future.
