President Uhuru Kenyatta was in Kirinyaga county to officially open the sixth devolution conference on Tuesday, March 5, when Kenyans noticed something. And it was not the president’s long speech on corruption but a young beautiful female sign language who stood by him whose role was to ensure Uhuru’s speech reached all and sundry.
The good lady immediately appeared to have done her homework well and in a language she understands best, she emphasised each point. Everyone at Kirinyaga University where top investors will share ideas for the next three days, stayed glued to the woman of the moment and watched her facial and body expressions.
Her expressions amplified Uhuru’s and literally added volume to her signs, showing the irritation from the president’s face who was stressing on the need to divorce politics from anti-graft war. Some Kenyans online even confessed to have muted the audio visuals just not to ensure they did not miss out on what she was saying. “For a minute I became a deaf person since the video was muted on my browser. I understood everything the president said,” Lyrical Abdul admitted.
The conference comes to a close on Friday, March 8, by an address from Deputy President William Ruto.
