A Form one student identified as Eunice Kwamboka from Sengani High School in Kangundo, Machakos County was on Monday kicked out of school for attending her uncle’s funeral.

Kwamboka was expelled from school after it was claimed that the school principal faulted her for leaving the school premises.

The girl’s father, Evans Ombori, indicated that the principal known as S.W. Wambua, had argued that students are only allowed to attend burial ceremonies of nuclear family as reported by Citizen Digital.

Ombori noted that his daughter had been granted permission by the school and even had proof in the form of the permission slip that had an official signature and school stamp.

The 15-year old had been allowed to be away from school on February 12 this year for the burial that took place on the 15.

The father pointed out that the return date was not given but was told by the teacher that it would be communicated to them.

According to Ombori, the uncle was the guardian to his daughter and paid for her fees as he was always away.

The family has now called for the Ministry of Education to intervene in the matter.

The principal was however nowhere to be found to comment on the issue, but it was reported that he was in consultations with the Board of Management in regards to what will be done next.
