Lawyer Chesang murder: why court allowed police to detain magistrate

For the next nine days, Senior Resident Magistrate Maisy Chesang will remain in police custody, court has ruled.

Her detention will allow more time for police to conclude investigations into her role in murder of husband and lawyer Robert Chesang.

The Nyeri Magistrate was arraigned at the Mavoko law courts on Monday morning with three other suspects as probe into the death of city lawyer Chesang continues.

She spent the night in police custody together with three police officers. A retired officer linked to the murder was arrested in Baragoi, Samburu County on Saturday.

Police alleged that he was the link between the wife and Chesang’s killers.

Her arrest follows days of investigations into Chesang’s murder in Lukenya, Machakos County.

The lawyer was shot and killed by gunmen who raided his house at Moke Gardens in broad daylight on February 17.
