Former sports minister Rashid Echesa says he has accepted the president’s decision to sack him and that he is grateful for the opportunity to serve as a cabinet secretary.
Echesa was shown the door by President Uhuru Kenyatta in a mini Cabinet reshuffle last Thursday and his place taken by former Education CS Amina Mohammed.
Echesa says he served at the president’s pleasure.
His sacking has been condemned by Western region leaders led by National Assembly Majority Whip Washiali. The Mumias West MP said Echesa’s sacking was a blow to the Luhya community.
However, on Sunday Central Organisanisation of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli accused those condemning Uhuru of dishonesty and “auctioning Luhyas for selfish gains”.
