More trouble as Obado partner arrested with fake plate

Migori Governor’s business partner Jared Kwaga was, on Friday, arrested driving in a car with a fake number plate.

Kwaga, who is a key suspect in Sh 2 billion scandle, was nabbed in Kisumu county.

According to Kisumu Divisional Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) Noah Katumo, the number plate, KCF 346Y, was not the official registration number of the Toyota Prado that Kwaga was found in.

“We are conducting investigations to establish his intentions for using a vehicle with a wrong number plate,” stated Katumo according to Daily Nation.

Kwaga, who was a close business associate to Obado, was arrested by the Special Crimes Unit and taken to Kisumu Central Police Station.

The officers identified the correct number plate for the car he was driving as KCF 757Y.

Kwaga is just one of the numerous proxies to Obado who have made him the focal point in the investigations over how Kshs 2 Billion was fraudulently wired out of the county.

According to court documents by the Anti-graft agency EACC, seven members of Obado’s family registered 16 companies that got awarded fraudulent tenders.

Kwaga’s appointment to the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication board in February also led to a public uproar where Minister Joe Mucheru revoked his appointment.

Speaking on February 11, 2019, CS Mucheru’s Personal Assistant confirmed that the revocation had been effected through a gazette notice.
