Male students at Bishop Ndingi Mixed Secondary School in Machakos County went gun blazing on Saturday, protesting against being separated from their female colleagues. The power of human ties.

The aggrieved students broke dormitory window panes, terming the school administration’s decision as “unfair”.

The school, which has both boarding and day programmes, recently introduced a new rule, separating girls from boys during dining and entertainment sessions.

Meanwhile, the girls remained within the school compound as the boys demonstrated on the streets of Mwala and Makutano in Machakos County.

Mwala Deputy County Commissioner, Aphazard Kitonga, confirmed the incident, saying police were working around the clock to restore order.

The school has a student population of 320 — 120 girls and 200 boys.
