Ole Gunner Speaks on De Gea’s Contract with the Club

Solskjaer's message to De Gea over his contract

Manchester United’s goal keeper David De Gea hasn’t yet come into terms with the club concerning his contract.

However , manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes the Spaniard remembers faith the club showed in him.

Manchester United recently triggered the Spaniard’s one-year extension in his contract that will see him at the club till 2020 but a new deal is yet to be signed with the club despite De Gea’s representatives negotiating on one. De Gea and goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez met with an agent in Cheshire on Wednesday and De Gea’s camp over negotiations on a new deal.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the clash against Southampton, Solskjaer was asked for an update on De Gea’s new contract, “No updates from me. The club and David are in dialogue, hopefully, they’ll agree. It’s out of my hands, but I’m sure we’ll do what we can. 

“David’s done fantastic since he came, the club really showed how much they wanted him back in the day when Eric and the gaffer found him, there were probably ‘keepers there better at that time but the belief the manager showed in him with the criticism he got at the time paid dividends.”
