DCI Detective Regrets Releasing Joseph Kori From Prison

A Directorate of Criminal Investigations detective was, on Wednesday, thrust on to the hot seat after he irregularly released Mary Wambui’s husband, Joseph Kori.

Appearing before Kiambu senior principal magistrate Stella Atambo, detective John Wahome was forced to apologise for disregarding court orders during the release of the businessman.

The court had stated that the police were in contempt for releasing the suspect before taking him back to court for clearance.

The officer, who is from DCI’s Homicide Unit, had been accused of releasing Kori even after the court ruled that he remains in police custody.

In his defence, however, Wahome explained that he set the suspect free after he found that he was not connected to the murder of his slain wife.

He further divulged that after carrying out satisfactory investigations, the agency preferred to carry on with the murder charges labelled against Judy Wangui and the taxi driver Michael Mathenge.

He also told the court that he had followed through with their orders that Wangui is taken to a hospital for a check-up after she complained of torture by the police, most notably, allegedly inserting pepper in her privates.

The medics, however, found that she was in good health after examining her.

Kori is the husband to the late Wambui who went missing on January 26 and her body found just a day later in Juja.

Police reports show that the deceased succumbed after a fight with Wangui over claims she was Kori’s other lover.

Two more women, Grace Wangari and Grace Wanjiru, came out claiming that they were romantically involved with Kori.
