Deputy President William Ruto’s wife Rachel Ruto has finally given her side of the harrowing experience involving a flight she was aboard. Rachel, a strong believer in Christ, gave her account of events in a church testimony in front of hundreds of congregants where she revealed the harrowing ordeal happened just as she was done with a prayer meeting in Mombasa.

Earlier reports highlighted the incident from an outsider’s perspective as the public learnt of the cancelled flight due because of a ‘failed engine’. However, Rachel, in her much detailed account revealed the experience was much scarier than reported , especially if one was on board the cancelled flight. In a testimony accessed by TUKO.co.ke, the DP’s wife narrates of how she flew down to the coast for a prayer meeting early on Friday, February 22.

Left Nairobi using KQ at 630am and was scheduled to return the same evening to attend Saturday prayers in Nairobi. Wanted to travel with little girl who was on half-term but shelved the plan and just went with my PA called Maureen and the security guy,” she told the church. Everything went well and after a successful prayer session, Rachel was well on course to return to the city but the process of acquiring a flight was marred with misfortune.

Not only did her scheduled flight bounce, but they were taken in by a different flight which, according to her, left before picking up all passengers. “We were supposed to leave airport at midnight and booked in at airport at 11pm only to find our KQ flight had been transferred to Jambojet because the former’s plane had not arrived. Before the flight there was confusion here and there. In some instances it was discovered some passengers had been left so the door was opened and closed severally,” she went on.

Eventually, once the plane did take off, it was barely airborne for 15 minutes as Rachel described to the church the exact moment she realized something was not right. “The Pilot called one crew girl who went to the cockpit and stayed for a while. She came back and said one engine had failed. Pilot directed we needed to fly back to Mombasa, people were shaken but I chose to pray with the crew girl and my PA I told God we cannot die prematurely before we finish our assignment on earth and he answered our prayers. We were just from a powerful prayer meeting,”
