Jubilee government is determined to uplift women.
The top government leaders have in the recent past expressed their satisfaction with the women performance.
Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday hinted at the possibility of picking a female running mate in his bid for the presidency in 2022.
The DP revealed glimpses of his plan while speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony held in honour of Kericho Woman Representative, Florence Bore, in Getarwet, Bureti Constituency.
“That idea is very good. Jubilee is likely to give women the first shot towards the presidency by picking one of them as my running mate in 2022,” DP Ruto remarked while addressing the gathering.
He, however, went on to affirm that women needed to work just as hard in order to increase their chances of taking up leadership positions and effect change.
Nothing is given on a silver plate. Women must work hard for the leadership of this great nation. We must, therefore, work to steer the country forward,” he asserted.
DP Ruto also assured Kenyans that the Jubilee government was committed to creating equal opportunities for women to serve the country in various capacities.
The 2022 presidential hopeful’s remarks come just days after President Uhuru disclosed that he was looking forward to one day listening to the first female president addressing the nation.
The president went on to announce that some of his top performing Cabinet Secretaries were indeed women, affirming his sentiments that women understand the basis of servant leadership.
He went on to appeal to the girls to explore their leadership potential in order to elevate the country and end myths and false perceptions regarding women in leadership positions.
DP Ruto’s revelation is bound to spark several reactions as the various women leaders eye the top-seat.
To date, only Mauritius, Liberia and Ethiopia have managed to elect women as presidents in Africa.
