What Message Was Gareth Bale Passing to Real Madrid?

Bale was expected to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo this season but has found himself snubbed by Santiago Solari on a number of occasions.

The Welshman again found himself on the substitutes bench against Levante on Sunday before replacing Karim Benzema in the 74th minute.

Soon after, Bale put Los Blancos ahead from the penalty after a controversial decision by VAR.

The first to try and congratulate Bale after his goal was Lucas Vazquez, who was quickly ignored and swatted away by the former Tottenham man.

Bale headed straight to the centre circle for the restart, only giving high-fives to a select few of his team-mates.

This is not the first time the player’s celebration has garnered attention in recent weeks.

Bale was threatened with a 12-game ban after an apparent offensive gesture against Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

But speaking after last night’s win, Solari played down the incident and talk of Bale being unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“He was happy in the dressing room because he scored,” he told reporters in his post-match press conference.

“I loved how he came on and played with rage.

“He won us the game and did a great job. I thought he had a fantastic match.

“You [the media] have more eyes than me. What I saw was how hard he worked on the pitch.

“He gave us the victory. If you score the goals, you can celebrate as you want.”

Madrid are still facing an uphill battle to win La Liga.

But Solari thinks his side can take a number of positives from their away win at the weekend.

“We put the focus on the positives,” he said.

“And the positive thing was how we worked in this game. It’s a very complicated fixture, but we played a very serious match.

“We could have scored earlier with Vinicius [Junior] and the result would have been more substantial.”
