Oscars 2019 brings smile as Disney’s Lion King Trailer and poster get released

The first full length trailer for Disney’s live action remake of The Lion King dropped during The Oscars. There wasn’t much to garner from the new footage, though it followed the 1994 animated classic frame by frame.

The scene starts with the Circle of Life as Rafiki lifts Simba over the kingdom. The cast includes James Earl Jones, returning as Mufasa, as well as Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar. Billy Eichner stars as Timon, John Oliver as Zazu and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa.

Disney also released a new poster, echoing the classic moment Mufasa looks out over the kingdom telling Simba everything the light touches is their domain. The synopsis promises “the battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile.

The first trailer racked up a record 224.6 million views in its first 24 hours. Jon Favreau directed the latest remake from The House of Mouse. He also recently directed the remake of Jungle Book, using similar CGI tech, which earned Sh96 billion worldwide.
