5 UHURU’S CS TO BE EXONERATED OVER GRAFT

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has confirmed that they are finalizing corruption cases on at least three Cabinet Secretaries(CSs) among the five that were adversely mentioned in the past one week.

Appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism on Thursday, Tourism CS Najib Balala was questioned about a Sh. 100 million contract awarded to a US tour firm. 

Treasury CS Henry Rotich was, on Tuesday, grilled in connection with the construction of multi-billion-shilling dams amid claims of kickbacks.

While about 75 percent of the budget for construction of the dams had been released, there was little on the ground to show how the money was spent.

According to the Kerio Valley Development Authority, Arror Dam was set to cost Ksh38.5 billion while Kimwarer dam in Keiyo South was to cost Ksh28 billion.

Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri and Water CS Simon Chelgui have been implicated in the subsidized fertilizer scandal. Reports indicate that they are set to be summoned by the DCI to help unravel the scandals.

In 2018 Kiunjuri was also implicated over the National Cereals and Produce Board failure to pay farmers. Health CS Sicily Kariuki also faced claims of a massive theft of public money under her parastatals such us the National Hospital Insurance Fund.

Dr Matiang’i also had a close shave when MPs accused him of having benefited from the Ruaraka land scam. A Parliamentary report linking him to the scandal was rejected by the House.

Of late, President Kenyatta has been growing impatient with incessant corruption within his government, particularly within ministries that are unable to account for billions of shillings every year.

Four years ago, President Kenyatta dropped five ministers whose ministries had been adversely mentioned in various scandals.

They were  Charity Ngilu (Lands), Felix Kosgei (Agriculture), David Chirchir (Energy), Kazungu Kambi (Labour) and Michael Kamau (Transport and Infrastructure).
