A 10-year-old and 12-year-old in Matungulu, Machakos County were reported to have drowned in a pool on Sunday while they were fetching water.
Police however on Monday retrieved their bodies.
According to Matungulu OCPD Samuel Mukuusi, pupils Samuel Nyamai ,10, a Class Six Pupil at Nzambani Primary School and Benjamin Wambua,12, a pupil at Milili Primary School, had gone to collect water the water pool in the afternoon when one slipped and fell.
The other boy died trying to save his friend, Mr Mukuusi said.
The OCPD urged parents to closely monitor their children and avoid sending them to fetch water unaccompanied by adults.
The bodies of the minors have been taken to Ol-Donyo Sabuk Funeral Home.
