Failed suicide mission leads man to police custody

Paul Kimani Ndegwa, a father of two has been charged with manslaughter and attempting to take his life by consuming rat poison. He allegedly stabbed his wife, Joyce Wairimu after a scuffle at a house in Masimba. The two had parted ways six months ago.

Wairimu was being hosted by Ndegwa’s brother after the separation. On the fateful day at around 10pm, Ndegwa visited Wairimu at his brother’s house where he spent the night since it was late.

Later on, an argument ensued between Ndegwa and Wairimu before he allegedly stabbed her on the stomach. When he realised that it had turned tragic, Ndegwa, took rat poison in attempt to end his own life, but he was rescued and rushed for treatment.

Wairimu, who suffered deep injuries, died while she was being rushed to hospital. The matter was reported to cops, who managed to arrest Ndegwa.  In court, he denied the charges and was released on a personal bond of Sh300, 000 for pleading not guilty. The matter shall be heard on June 6.
