The beat goes on; Why MJ’s estate is filing a lawsuit to bar a documentary release

Even ten years after his world famed death, the king of pop, Michael Jackson rents the air not just with his music but every news that break every day, he’s up at it now though in absentia. Michael Jackson’s estate is reportedly filing a $100 million lawsuit in a bid to stop the release of documentary ‘Leaving Neverland’.

The controversial documentary is set to be released in the UK next month, and features interviews with two men Wade Robson and James Safechuck who claim they were sexually abused by the singer as children.

But the King Of Pop’s estate is trying to stop it being released, according to reports by a section of media .

The filing, seen by the paper, accused HBO of breaching a contract that was signed by Michael himself in 1992 when his Dangerous World Tour aired on the channel.

Wade Robson,he claims he was bused as a young kid by Michael Jackson

It’s said the film does it by alleging the singer molested children while he was on the tour. The suit says: “It is hard to imagine a more direct violation of the non-disparagement clause.”

It also calls Wade and James “admitted perjurers” and refers to current HBO president Richard Pepler as a “failure”.

The four-hour documentary is set to air on HBO on March 3 and 4 and in the UK on Channel 4 on March 6 and 7.

The lawsuit adds: “Michael may not have lived his life according to society’s norms, but genius and eccentricity are not crimes. Nothing and no one can rewrite the facts which show that Michael Jackson is indeed innocent of the charges being levied at him by HBO in its ‘documentary’ Leaving Neverland.

“No one-sided ‘documentary’ can substitute for a real documentary, or for a trial where both sides are heard, competent evidence is presented, and witnesses are cross-examined.”

Wade initially testified in Jackson’s favour at his 2005 child sex abuse trial.

The late singer’s estate had already confirmed plans to sue the documentary makers, and his brother Jermaine Jackson has emotionally denied all the allegations made on film.

Jackson’s family and estate deny all the allegations, branding the programme “an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in.”
