The Motorist Association of Kenya has put measures in place to curb imposing of over speeding accusations by rogue officers.

This comes after many motorists reported cases of being falsely accused of being against the road safety regulations in the hands of rogue officers seeking bribe.

The association, yesterday made a petition to the government over the increased incidents of extortion on sham speed limits accusations by some rogue cops.

As indicated in their statement, the well-calculated extortion scheme targets drivers just about to enter or leave a town where allegations of exceeding speeds of 50Kph are imposed; without due reason of threat to road safety or the required proof of contravention as stipulated in the law.

“Many motorists have reported the loss of cash bail and numerous others bribed to escape the hallowing experience of a lopsided justice system.” reads statement in part.

Have a look at the measures put in place to curb this injustice

  1. All members with MAK Stickers should not pay a bribe.
  2. All sticker holders should try as much as possible to be within the law and where they get caught with minor offenses should ask to be treated as per the new law of Minor offenses first and second schedules which were upheld by Judge Mativo, therefore, applicable.
  3. Members should not be afraid to attend a court process, because this is where the problem starts.
  4. MAK advice is patience during the court process, however involving it may seem, since at the end we win. Actually, all the cases where motorists pleaded not guilty through the association’s advice the matter ended with a dismissal, acquittal or a win since many times magistrates don’t get convinced with phony evidence adduced by the prosecution
