The legend of Chelsea Frank Lampard admits that he has been considered for the top job of being coach at Chelsea Football Club. He is not surprised at all he says, considering that he was the record goalscorer for the club.
The current coach at Stamford Bridge Maurizio Sarri is under lots pressure having lost five of their last ten games.
It is proper to assume that Lampard would be the most suitable successor given his status as the Blues’ record goalscorer and magnificent playing career with the club.
But he insists he remains fully focused on Derby’s promotion push after a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to struggling Millwall on Wednesday night.
“Nothing surprises me in football,” Lampard said “There will be links all over the place. It doesn’t surprise me.
“I just have to focus on the job in hand here. I’m certainly not thinking about it, talking about it.
“It is what it is. I’m Derby manager, and we’re working hard every game here. I certainly am.”
“My focus was absolutely on Millwall and will remain the same for Nottingham Forest.”
Another Blues legend, Gianfranco Zola, has also been linked with the job.
He is already at Stamford Bridge as Sarri’s number two but was set to miss tonight’s Europa League clash with Malmo due to illness.
He underwent a routine procedure for gallstones at the weekend but was readmitted to hospital today after complications and later released.
