Sala died in a plane crash last month after leaving Nantes for Cardiff in the January transfer window.

The plane in which he was flying in crashed in the English Channel before the striker had appeared for his new club.

Wreckage was recovered earlier this month with Sala’s body found though pilot David Ibbotson is still missing.
Nantes have led the tributes to the striker, though have now been punished after their supporters let off flares.

Ligue 1’s disciplinary commission fined Nantes €16,500 (£14,300) after flares were lit and objects thrown in a league match against St Etienne on January 30, the club’s first game after the Argentine went missing.

Another simply added: “HEARTLESS!!!”

While a third posted: “For goodness sake. If ever there was cause…”

Information recently released confirmed the cause of Sala’s death as ‘head and trunk injuries’.

Ian Parry, senior coroner’s officer, said: “The Malibu aircraft left the airport in France for Cardiff with two people on board, the pilot David Ibbotson and passenger Emiliano Sala.

“Air traffic control lost contact during the flight and an extensive search operation was carried out.

Nantes have also been fined €4,500 (£3,900) for a similar tribute in their Ligue 1 clash with Nimes earlier this month.

Sala netted 48 times in 133 games for Nantes before leaving to join Premier League side Cardiff.

And some football fans weren’t impressed with Ligue 1’s decision to fine Nantes.
