How sugarcane plantation became a home for a toddler

Administration Police Moses Mangéni has rescued a baby who had been dumped in a sugarcane plantation in Matete, Kakamega County. He says; ” The baby was fatigued and looked dehydrated and hungry. It seems she was dumped two nights before I found her. Some children who are abandoned are usually out of incest but for this case, we are not sure.”

He says he could be forced to adopt the child and ensure she gets good education. ”Our duty as police officers is to secure life and property.” Matete AP boss Japheth Ambalwa has praised Mangéni for rescuing the baby.

He says Mangéni has been at the forefront to ensure parents take their children to school; ”Since we opened the gender violence desk, Mangéni has been championing for parents to take children to school. He moves around rescuing children locked up in homes. At least 50 girls, some who were sexually abused, are now in school.”

The police commander decries rising cases of children abandonment and teenage pregnancy in Matete. He has urged parents to look for safe ways to solve their issues without hurting children, insisting that parents should focus on educating their children not risking their lives.

Investigations have started to find the mother of the innocent child and if found she is at risk of being prosecuted for cruelty.
