Hesbon Abonyi was killed by his 18 years old nephew with a piece of wood at their Kakamega Central home in Lurambi. The boy who was living with his uncle arrived home drunk and started a quarrel with his uncle, Abonyi. Abonyi was not happy after the teenager flashed a torch at him and threatened to beat him up.
The boy ran to his grandparents’ house but the uncle pursued him there. A confrontation ensued which degenerated into a fight. The accused picked a piece of wood and hit the uncle on the head leading to his death on the spot.
He has been charged with murder before High Court judge Jesse Njagi which is upon a plea bargain agreement between the DPP and the boy’s lawyer, reduced to manslaughter. The boy will remain in custody until a report from probation officers is presented to court on March 13.
Murder cases have been on the rise. People acting out of anger which end up costing others lives. This comes after another case was reported at Kibera. A young man killed a fellow man over his girlfriend. The murder is said to have been caused by jealous since the girl is said to have parted ways with the suspect.
