First Lady Margret Kenyatta already in training for Beyond Zero half marathon

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has intensified training for the Beyond Zero half marathan 2019 edition which is slated for Sunday, March 10, at Nyayo stadium. Margaret who has been training for weeks now, was joined by journalists from various media houses at State House for the morning session on Wednesday, February 20.

“I was delighted to be joined by journalists from various media houses this morning at State House, Nairobi, for a training session in readiness for the Beyond Zero half marathon.

We continue to move forward together to ensure the Beyond Zero health interventions reach more Kenyans,” she posted. But even as she ensures the initiative will secure the basic maternal and child health care, questions remain unanswered whether the five-year-old campaign has achieved its intended purpose. “Beyond Zero has always been a scam.

The money raised end up in people pockets. Why spend that much on containers in the name of mobile clinics. Instead of building a well equipped hospital. Kenya we have a long way to go,” Fred Deqyoks lamented.

This year’s edition comes at a time Kenya health sector is trampling with myriad challenges as perennial shortage of enough facilities resulting to increased mortality rate. In Kiambu county alone for instance, 60 infant deaths were recorded between December 2018 to February 2019 at the Kiambu Level Five Hospital. Such stories are reminiscent of the dire health status across the country.
