On Wednesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed said it is going to be tough for loandefaulters as the High Education Loans Board (Helb) seeks to recover over 7.2 billion owed by 74,000 defaulters.
“We are also going to partner with our law enforcement agencies to track down those holding jobs and yet are reluctant to stand up to be counted as responsible and patriotic citizens who honour their debts,” she said.
Many youths have since taken to twitter to caution Amina that in the implementation of the hunt, many Kenyans will fill themselves in the cells due to high unemployment rate in Kenya.
One advised that the move is wastage of government resources to arrest them that she should just show the defaulters the prisons she wants the youths to go.
One youth even lamented over an increase in things the young peoplewill be running away from in addition to depression and police harrassment and now police hunt over HELB loan.
Some have suggested being a youth in Kenya is now a crime because graduates have no jobs to repay the HELB loan unless they resort to auctioning their spleen and other body parts.
