Sonko does the unthinkable

A day after BBC Africa journalist Larry Madowo offered to help Boniface Murage at the court, another well wisher has come out and offered to pay the Ksh 56, 000 bill all together.

The bill was paid hours before Boniface Murage was due for his sentence after he admitted the offence before Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.

According to the 22 year old he took the decision to smuggle out his baby to avoid paying the Sh56,000 bill because it was too high for the family.

Among the well-wishers included Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who visited Murage’s wife Agnes at KNH and helped in her release from the hospital together with the child.

While taking to his Facebook account Sonko wrote, “I’m happy Boniface Murage is now a free man after the court gave him a 3-month non custodial sentence since he pleaded guilty for attempting to smuggle his baby out of Kenyatta National Hospital as he couldn’t raise an outstanding hospital bill amounting to Sh 56,000. Murage has promised to adhere to all the strict conditions set by the court of not being involved in crime during the 3-month probation period. Last evening my team shopped for Mugabe’s family including his daughter who was released from the hospital afte a good Samaritan settled their hospital bill.I’m appealing to other Kenyans to offer good deeds to the less fortunate members of the society as a way of showing generosity. As the Ambassador of good deeds in Africa, I’ll be hosting the Good Deeds Day in April 7th to promote good deeds in our society.”
