Murdered lawyer Chesang had a troubled violent marriage, new details emerge

Details have emerged on the personal life of lawyer Robert Chesang, an advocate of the High Court who was brutally murdered on Sunday at his home in Lukenya, Machakos County,

Chesang had a troubled marriage with his wife Maisy Pauline Omungala Chesang – a magistrate.

The couple had accused each other of domestic violence and the matter heard before the Mavoko Law Courts and the High Court in Machakos.

Maisy had initially sought to a restraining order from her husband whom she accused of being violent.

Chesang later sued his wife and several senior police officers in Athi River including the OCPD, the OCS and the deputy OCPD – accusing them of harassing him.

The matter was eventually taken before High Court judge George Odunga who dismissed it, saying it was between Chesang and his wife Maisy.

I am not convinced that the subject of this dispute cannot be fairly heard and determined by another Magistrate’s Court notwithstanding the fact that the 1st Respondent is a judicial officer,” Odunga ruled in October last year.

The developments emerged even as detectives indicated that they were looking at a business angle to the murder of the lawyer said to have handled numerous land matters.

The detectives attached to the matter indicated that the gangmen were well trained, going by their precision and the weapons they carried, AK47s that are usually issued to members of the security forces.

At the time of his death, Chesang was alone in the house as his wife lives and works in Nyeri with their two children.
