How Marcelo’s form has dipped amid Juventus links

Marcelo has not had the best of seasons having recently lost his place to Sergio Reguilon and his misery was compounded when he was at fault in the 1-2 defeat to Girona in LaLiga on Sunday.

The defeat saw Madrid lose some valuable ground on table-toppers Barcelona as they now sit nine points adrift and slipped to third on the log. Marcelo was culpable of Girona’s match-winner when Thibaut Courtois parried the initial effort away from goal, Portu got to the rebound faster than Marcelo to nod home for the Catalans.

Situation looks bleak for Marcelo as in his last nine LaLiga starts, Real Madrid have lost six times, drawn twice and won just once, conceding 20 goals in that time. Marcelo was also responsible for the equalizer in the Copa del Rey clash against Barcelona as he was unable to return in time from an attacking run, Marcelo was nowhere to be found as Malcom found the space to smash home the equalizer.

Sergio Reguilon has impressed in Marcelo’s absence having guided Real Madrid to victory in his last eight league starts including wins over Atletico Madrid and Ajax in the Champions League. Marcelo has been linked with a move to Juventus as he aims to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo.
