Defilement cases have been on rise in Kenya. A Nairobi doctor has been charged for defiling a mentally challenged girl. Andrew Njeru, 55, according to court records, defiled the 14-year- old girl at his clinic in Mwiki. Njeru faced other charges of committing an indecent act with the minor against the law and her will.
Police stated that the minor, who is mentally sick, has been undergoing treatment at Njeru’s clinic, which is near her home. The court heard that on the fateful day, the minor was cleaning her shoes when Njeru approached her asking her to accompany him to the clinic, but she declined. Angered, he dragged her inside the clinic, where he committed the act, before handing her Sh50 and warned her not to tell anyone what had transpired. The minor narrated the story to her mother, who reported the matter to the police.
When he was arraigned in court, Njeru denied the charges and was set free on Sh300,000 cash bail. The matter will be mentioned on February 26.
Illegal acts in clinics have become a day to day tale. Not forgetting the human rights activist who lost her wife after undergoing an illegal abortion in a Dandora clinic which left her bleeding to death.
