A woman has narrated how she walked for five kilometers from Mbagathi Hospital to city mortuary with the body of her dead son. Now imagine dealing with the trauma of losing a six month child and then walking with the dead body for 5 kilometers. How cruel can that be?
We are used to saying ‘Rest in Peace’ when referring to the dead but in Kenya, even dead people are not allowed to rest, they’re humiliated even in death.
Immaculate Auma had to walk with her child from Mbagathi Hospital to KNH Police Station where she reported the death before she proceeded to the City mortuary. Both the Police Station and Mbagathi Hospital could not help transport the body.
But her agony did not end there, when she reached city mortuary, she had to wait for three more hours on the bench before the child could be booked. In fact it took the help of activists for the mortuary attendants to book the body.
