Bad news for Real Madrid

successful season in front of goal for Karim Benzema continued on Wednesday evening as he scored against Ajax but it wasn’t all good news as he was withdrawn with discomfort for Marco Asensio.

Thankfully for Real Madrid, the injury did not seem too serious and the good news is they do not have a Champions League game next week, allowing for some recovery time.

Benzema hasn’t quite been at his highest level in the last couple of games, namely at the Camp Nou and Wanda Metropolitano, and while he was good and effective he wasn’t exquisite or lethal.

In Amsterdam, though, he was on target again as he found his 19th goal of the season and his fourth in the Champions League after some good work from Vinicius Junior.

Benzema is Madrid’s main asset in attack and he has succeeded Cristiano Ronaldo as the reference point.

As things stand, his best goalscoring season at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu came in 2012/13, when he netted 32 times, and that is a record that is within reach for the No.9 this term.
