Kilifi County Government under the leadership of Governor Amason Kingi has unveiled a program to support Livestock farmers.
This comes days after the county government distributed free dairy cows to a number of farmers from different wards.
This was done in the spirit of revamping the dairy sector by also adding value to already existing dairy produce, putting up milk cooling plants, ensuring access to high quality feeds and training extension officers on modern agriculture.
Governor Kingi stated that they are putting up milk cooling plants in in Marafa, Gede, Tezo, Bamba, Ganze and Ruruma so as to allow farmers store their milk longer, especially in areas with no ready market and create value addition through milk by-products.
Earlier today, Kilifi Governor announced that they are supporting livestock farmers through extension services such as issuing free vaccines against foot and mouth disease (FMD) and advising farmers on best practices as they aim to establish a disease free County.
The county is also working around the clock to modernise livestock production and turn it into a lucrative business for farmers to venture in.
Kingi noted that sustainable use of available livestock resources will enhance productivity of small holder farmers, strengthens rural livelihoods and improve the living standards of the people.
He also urged all livestock farmers in Kilifi County to take advantage of the ongoing vaccination campaign against Rift Valley Fever (RVF) and Rabies as we gear towards safeguarding livestock.
These initiatives will boost incomes to families who derive their livelihood from dairy farming and attract others to take up the venture as a profitable business.
