Caroline Mwatha, a human rights activist who went missing a week ago, was found dead and her body discovered booked at city mortuary under an alias. A police source said that Mwatha, who was five months pregnant, had died at a clinic where she had gone for a botched abortion.
Caroline Mwatha was reported missing last week, prompting Amnesty International to raise the alarm over her disappearance, given her work lobbying against extra judicial killings by police.
The owner of the clinic, and a doctor, came clean and admitted that “they took the body to the mortuary and booked her under a different name and indicated she died of diarrhea”.
The source said police had seen text messages of her planning the abortion with the clinic owner. Police spokesman Charles Owino confirmed the death and the arrests of the doctor and clinic owner.
Kenyans have taken to twitter to cry foul play over the death of the human rights activist.
So they Kill Caroline Mwatha and want us all to believe she died of botched abortion??? Because that is how foolish we are???

This is absolutely horrific on so many levels. First she has been missing for a number of days only for narrative to emerge that she died of a botched abortion #CarolineMwatha Rest in Power.#WHRDs. My heart bleeds. https://t.co/bHzx7xp2rp

Whether Caroline Mwatha died from a Botched abortion or more, all we can do now is to wait for DCI to complete the investigation & hope she gets the Justice she deserves. People do strange things for strange reasons but that’s between her & God. Meanwhile let’s celebrate her life.

The case of Caroline mwatha is one of the cases where police have no clue on what to do, how to do it and when ,when a case is in the public limelight. Many people disappear only to be found at the morturies but instead of investigating, police will always look for a scapegoat

Kenyan media frustrates me. You cannot put dead from botched abortion in your headline and no postmortem has been conducted yet.
Also the police source cited is of course anonymous, so this is conjecture.
Prayers for the family of Caroline Mwatha.?
