Dandora rights activist’s husband not aware of wifes’ pregnancy

Husband to Dandora based human rights activist who was on Tuesday, February 12, found dead at a city morgue has refuted claims his wife succumbed to a botched abortion. Joshua Ochieng’ said his wife, Caroline Mwatha, was a staunch protector and defender of human rights and spoke strongly against termination of pregnancies.

Ochieng’ poked holes in a report by DCI boss George Kinoti urging that it was unbelievable that Mwatha could have waited for five months to go and procure such a delicate and unlawful procedure, Citizen Digital reported on Wednesday, February 13. “Why would she wait for five months to abort a baby? I really doubt the police report.

I have known my wife for over a decade now – and I think I am certain of her character; I know what she can do, and what she can’t do. Abortion is the last thing she would procure,” said Ochieng’.

The Dubai based trader further dismissed a police narrative alleging that Mwatha’s boyfriend Alexander Gitau Gikonyo, was responsible for the pregnancy. Ochieng’ claimed that if Mwatha was pregnant , then he was responsible for it since the last time they were in contact was in August 2018.

He insisted that his wife was faithful and would have briefed him if she was pregnant. “And, even if she was pregnant, it could as well be mine. Why? Because the last time I was in Kenya was in late August last year, and we got intimate. If you do your calculation, then the five-plus months pregnancy that police are alleging could as well be mine.

But, what I am sure is she wasn’t pregnant,” said Ochieng’. As ealier reported, Mwatha went missing on Wednesday, February 6, and her family launched a search. On Tuesday, February 12, her body was found at City Mortuary but she was booked in under a different name.

Her family and colleagues hold that the death is a result of a forced disappearance and execution. They relate this to her zealous fight against extra judicial killings police have severally been spot for. Six people have since been arrested in connection with the mystery death. They include Kikonyo and medics at a city clinic she was allegedly booked in for abortion.
