Swazuri won’t chair last NLC meeting, court rules

National Land Commission (NLC) Chairperson Muhammad Swazuri’s case seeking to chair one last meeting before his term expires has been dismissed by the High Court in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Mr. Swazuri, in the case, told the court it was prudent for him to call a meeting because he needs to hand over before his term comes to an end on February 19, 2019.

While declining the application, however, Justice Hedwig Ong’udi said the court cannot interfere with internal affairs of the commission.

The embattled NLC boss argued that he had been working well but is unable to call for meetings because most of the staffers are also witnesses in the case.

Mr. Swazuri was, hence, reminded of his bond release terms which refrained him from interfering with witnesses lined up to testify against him.

Justice Ong’udi added that no new material was placed before the court, further stating that the applicant knew his term would end.
